JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
Dr. Justin Cohen is an Otolaryngologist (Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor) at the 779th Medical Group. He routinely helps people with chronic nasal obstruction or sinus problems along with other concerns related to the head and neck. In addition, Dr. Cohen is also a Facial Plastic Surgeon, highly proficient at treating patients for both reconstructive as well as cosmetic needs. This includes military members with battlefield injuries as well as patients desiring aesthetic improvements to improve their overall appearance.
Individuals treated for skin cancer often are left with large and disfiguring defects in their face following removal. Dr. Cohen specializes in reconstructive surgery to help restore a natural look whenever possible. He can also help to smooth out and minimize scars that may have come from other injuries, including previous surgeries or unfortunate accidents. Dr. Cohen frequently gets referrals from other doctors, especially when patients themselves don't necessarily realize something can be treated. Naturally, in a military setting it is common to see personnel with traumatic injuries as well. Dr. Cohen strives to be a source of comfort as these wounded warriors are restored to their former selves.
In addition to treating ENT patients, Dr. Cohen provides care for individuals seeking a more rejuvenated and youthful appearance. He specializes in procedures such as wrinkle reduction using Botox, volume restoration with facial fillers, and surgical restoration including browlifts, eyelid lifts, and facelifts. Dr. Cohen is also a rhinoplasty (nose job) specialist.
"I want to make people feel like their best self. And I will never judge or critique someone unless I am asked," said Cohen.
Dr. Cohen arrived at the 779th Medical Group last June. He is double Ivy-League trained, coming from Columbia and Cornell Universities, where he completed his General Surgery internship and residency in Head and Neck Surgery/Facial Plastic Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He also served as a Fellow at the world renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He grew up in Virginia and is a graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School.
While gaining experience in the field of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Cohen provided support for Operation Smile, a global surgical outreach program helping children in underprivileged countries who have facial clefts and other congenital deformities.
"Birth defects, especially of the face, can be catastrophic for children. They can have issues ranging from functional problems to social stigmas, and often have great difficulty finding work or even marrying. I am actively planning missions abroad to help these children," said Cohen.
Dr. Cohen understands the universal desire to make the most of what nature gave you. If you are dealing with a condition that affects your face, ears, nose, throat, or a related area, an ENT/Facial Plastic Surgery specialist may be able to help.
