Severe Weather Closure - Frequently Asked Questions
In the interest of safety and welfare of our patients, visitors and staff, Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center (MGMCSC) may close due to severe weather conditions. If you have a scheduled appointment during adverse weather conditions, please call ahead to verify if the clinic is open. You may also use MiCare to send a message to your care team.
1. How will I know if MGMCSC is open during severe weather?
MGMCSC parallels the Office of Personnel management (OPM) base closure and delayed reporting schedule.

2. If Joint Base Andrews is CLOSED, what does that mean for my scheduled clinic appointment or surgery on that day?
All clinic appointments and scheduled elective surgeries will be rescheduled. Clinic staff will contact patients as soon as possible to reschedule at the patient's earliest convenient time. Please ensure your phone number is correct in DEERS. Patients who are enrolled in MiCare will also receive a message notification.
3. If Joint Base Andrews is OPEN with DELAYED ARRIVAL, what does that mean for my scheduled clinic appointment or surgery?
In the event there is delayed opening or early departure, clinic appointments may be delayed or rescheduled. If appointments need to be rescheduled, patients will be contacted by clinic staff to determine the patient's next earliest convenient time to be seen.
Patients are advised to call 1 (888) 999-1212 for clinic operating status before departing their residence or contact their care team using MiCare.
Ambulatory Surgery: When Joint Base Andrews is open with delayed reporting, there is no anticipated change to patients who are scheduled for surgeries.
4. When can I expect to be notified if my scheduled appointment has to be rescheduled?
If your appointment needs to be rescheduled, MGMCSC staff will make every effort to call you prior to the scheduled appointment time. Staff will also send a message to those enrolled in MICare.
5. What should I do if my appointment needs to be rescheduled but I have not received a telephone call?
If you have not received a telephone call, the clinic may not have your current phone number.
Patients can call and reschedule their appointments when Joint Base Andrews reopens.

Patients are encouraged to use MiCare to contact their primary care clinic.
6. What if I have an urgent need and must be seen today?
The Emergent Care Center (ECC) is always open 24/7 to provide emergency and urgent care services.
Emergency Care is defined as a threat to life, limb or eye sight, such as severe bleeding, chest pain or broken bones.
Urgent Care is defined as care for an illness or injury that requires treatment within 24 hours but is not life threatening. Examples include: earache, toothache, rising fever, joint sprain or urinary tract infection. Visits to civilian urgent care centers require prior authorization from your Primary Care Manager (PCM). Failure to do so could result in you incurring the cost for the visit.
Our ECC or other military treatment facility (Walter Reed National Military Medical Center or Fort Belvoir Community Hospital) should be your first choice for urgent care issues.
If your condition is not urgent and you can wait for treatment, please contact the appointment line at 1-888-999-1212 when the clinic is open to schedule an appointment or use MiCare to contact your care team.
7. What if I have an emergency and need to be seen right away?
In an emergency call 911 (522 on Joint Base Andrews). The ECC provides ambulance service for emergencies occurring on Joint Base Andrews. Prince Georges County has an agreement with MGMCSC to bring military beneficiaries here if you ask and it is safe to do so.
