Teal ribbons on display show support for victims of sexual violence

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is recognized every April to raise awareness and promote the prevention of sexual violence through the use of special events and public education.

As part of this effort, Airmen from the 79th Medical Wing made 360 teal awareness ribbons. Each of the teal ribbons represents 10 Department of Defense members who were victims of sexual assault during the previous year.

Leadership from the 79th Medical Wing placed several of the teal ribbons on a tree located in the cafeteria at the Malcom Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center (MGMCSC), at Joint Base Andrews, to serve as a reminder of these victims. Ribbons were also available in a basket, near the pharmacy, for those passing through the clinic to place on the wall.

This act serves as a statement that the individual supports survivors of sexual violence. They promise to help end sexual assault by addressing inappropriate behavior and treating others with dignity and respect.
