JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
Have you ever wished you could talk with someone about a concern or issue? At Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center, the Behavioral Health Optimization Program makes it easy for you to get help.
The program embeds Internal Behavioral Health Consultants within the primary care clinic to help address and resolve behavioral health issues.
"BHOP is a convenient, easy to access, collaborative way to help people with common behavioral concerns. We are excited about the chances we get to help people improve health and performance," said Lt. Cmdr. Heidi Daniels, Clinical Psychologist at Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center.
At Joint Base Andrews, the BHOP program is co-located in the Family Health, Internal Medicine, and Pediatric Clinics. The program offers educational groups on sleep enhancement, management of chronic pain and pathways for making behavior changes.
IBHCs confer with both Primary Care Managers and patients. They provide education and intervention for more than 40 health/mental health topics. Common referral topics include sleep problems, weight management, smoking cessation, anxiety, depression, pain management, motivation, relaxation training, and goal setting.
"There is no referral required to see a consultant and appointments can be booked through the front desk of the clinic. In addition, same day appointments are available," Daniels said.
