8/12/2015 - JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. -- –
Joint Base Andrews will conduct an on-base, emergency-readiness exercise Aug. 13 in preparation for the upcoming air show on Sept. 19.
The exercise will test the response of base emergency personnel to a mass casualty incident and is not a real emergency situation. The exercise is slated to begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.
Neighbors in the surrounding area may see an increased fire, police, and ambulance presence around the base, as Joint Base Andrews will be partnering with Prince George's County emergency responders for this exercise. Neighbors may also hear tones and announcements over the loudspeaker systems, and an increased in helicopter noise as the Maryland State Police will be responding as well to transport "patients" to participating Maryland hospitals.
"There is no expectation for an accident to occur during the 2015 Joint Base Andrews Air Show," said Colonel Brad T. Hoagland, 11th Wing and Joint Base Andrews commander. "However, practicing for various emergency scenarios allows response agencies on and off base the opportunity to train together for a myriad of contingencies. This also provides us the added benefit of mitigating potential issues and concerns, and in the rare event something does occur, saving lives."
The 2015 Andrews Air Show will be Sept. 19th. For more information about the Air Show visit:
