JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
The 11th Wing Contracting Squadron won the 2014 Air Force Outstanding Contracting Unit (Small) Award on May 4, 2015.
The award judged mission accomplishment, innovation and process improvement results and management of resources.
The squadron won the Air Force level award for 2014 after winning the Air Force District of Washington award in 2013.
"This functional award highlights the outstanding mission accomplishments of a small unit," said Senior Master Sgt. Craig McClain, 11th CONS squadron superintendent. "Units receiving this award must demonstrate an optimal balance of fulfilling their mission while simultaneously upholding statutory law, Federal Acquisition Regulation guidance and Air Force policy."
The 11 CONS was identified as first in the Air Force for compliance with the new government purchase card micro-purchase system, re-capitalized the Joint Base Andrews flightline and managed $401 million in aircraft maintenance.
"We support all of the organizations on base to keep the Airfield open and the shops stocked," McClain said. "Whether it's air field tarmac quality or a construction project, it comes through our shop."
The 11 CONS supports various no-fail missions and ensures a high quality-of-life for base residents.
"I am extremely proud of each and every member of the 11 CONS family, and I am honored and humbled to be their Commander," said Lt. Col. Patrick K. Gates, 11 CONS commander. "Though small in numbers, our professional workforce provides support to many missions and multiple Wings and tenants. This award speaks volumes to the complexity of JBA, and we are grateful for this opportunity to showcase our role in the mighty 11th Wing."
