JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
Chapel One is hosting a Lenten Lunch Series consisting of a brief devotional, lunch and fellowship beginning at 11:45 a.m. on March 12, 2014. The lunch is scheduled to be held every Wednesday through April 9, 2014.
Lent prepares Christians for the annual celebration of the saving mysteries, death and resurrection of Jesus, said Chaplain Anthony Wade, 11th Wing Protestant Chaplain.
"On Ash Wednesday, Pope Francis remarked that Lent is a 'journey of penance, prayer and conversion,'" said Wade.
Each week's devotional will be dedicated to Jesus' journey to the Cross, said Wade, from his entry into Jerusalem until the time Jesus was arrested. The scriptures read will be from the book of Matthew.
"The whole purpose of Lent is for Christians to reflect on being right with God," said Wade. "It normally involves giving up something, fasting, prayer and giving to others."
