The Military and Family Support Center celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Seuss, American writer, poet and cartoonist, by hosting a week of family fun activities beginning on Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 2, and ending with a "Green Eggs and Ham" breakfast, Hearts Apart event for deployed families on March 8.

During the event, children were able to record themselves reading books to send to their deployed families. They were also able to hear several Dr. Seuss books being read by a self-proclaimed fan of the well-known author.

Adorned in a tall red and white striped hat, Adreinne Barnett, M&FSC Exceptional Military Family Program director, read Dr. Seuss books to youths during the relaxed family event.

"I really appreciate the fact his books focus on real-world scenarios," said Barnett. "A lot of his books deal with social issues."

Of course, the event wouldn't be complete without a healthy helping of bright green eggs, ham and shamrock-shaped toast. But the real meaning of that day's story was to connect hearts which are apart.

"It is important to get the family together and come meet other families going through the same things we are," said Ms. Nancy Gray, wife of Tech. Sgt. David Gray, 113th Security Forces member.

Her husband is currently deployed to the 380th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, Southwest Asia, and she attended the event with her family members.

"Hearts Apart, is a great program to let our loved ones know that there are people back home caring for us."

Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!"
