JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
The Combined Federal Campaign is the world's largest-annual workplace giving program, where potential donors can support more than 200 local organizations, and givers may contribute via cash, check, or payroll deduction. Everyone can make a donation to any of the 4400 charities the campaign supports.
The CFC raised more than $61.5 million through donations in 2012, including the Department of Defense, who raised $12.5 million with more than 29,000 DoD employees that made donations.
A fun run at the Joint Base Andrews track, near the Military Personnel Section, on Oct. 4, at 3 p.m. kicked off local awareness for the 2013 campaign.
"The CFC is more important to those in need now more than ever, especially with our government shutdown," said Col. Michael Gantt, Air Force District of Washington vice commander. "We are going through tough times, but there are still good people and organizations out there who could use our help."
This year's theme for the CFC is "I make it possible."
The 2013 campaign lasts from Oct. 7 through Nov.15, 2013. The Honorable Chuck Hagel, Secretary of Defense and CFC chair, announced his goal of the CFC raising at least another $12.5 million this year.
"The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all," according to the Office of Personnel Management.
CFC key workers will begin contacting Headquarters AFDW, 11th Wing, 79th Medical Wing, 844th Communications Group and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling element personnel to donate.
Pledge forms are available through unit coordinators.
