JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
Members of the 11th Wing here donated and delivered 4,431 pounds of non-perishable food and household items in support of the fifth annual Feds Feed Families campaign.
The donations went to the National Capital Area Food Bank, which provides much-needed items to more than 700 food pantries, soup kitchens and other service organizations in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland.
"Team Andrews came out in full-force this year," said Capt. Philip Welch, who was the campaign manager for Andrews. "Together, our installation donated almost 20,000 pounds of food and other non-perishable items for those in need."
11th Logistics Readiness Squadron Airmen played a major role again this year as they collected, weighed, palletized, stored and delivered the donations from Joint Base Andrews.
"I'm especially proud of our LRS folks who stepped up to the challenge and helped out wherever they could," Welch said.
The food drive is an annual event in which Federal employees in the Washington metropolitan area and around the country collect food for distribution by food banks and shelters. In the past four years, Federal government employees around the country have donated over 15 million pounds of food through the Feds Feed Families campaign. As of Sept. 3, employees of the Department of Defense contributed a total of 1.2 million pounds of food and household products, according to the DoD's Feds Feed Families website.
