JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA-BOLLING, Washington, D.C. –
The U.S. Air Force Band announced the release of a new app available for download on iOS and Android devices.
The app is designed to provide a better interface for viewing content on mobile devices, and will help users find recordings, news about upcoming concerts and special events, audition announcements, and other information from the Air Force Band’s website, usafband.af.mil.
As part of the Band’s 75th anniversary, the app was designed to streamline the viewing process and give smartphone and tablet users a better platform for connecting to the Air Force Band.
“The website was not designed with mobile devices in mind,” said Master Sgt. Brian Davis, unit webmaster. “Mobile device users are forced to manually expand pages on the website in order to view them on smaller screens. The app provides quick, easy access to the most popular pages from the Air Force Band website and makes it easier to read.”
The Air Force Band’s website earned 684,000 visits during the past year which accounted for almost 3 million page views of Air Force content.
Mobile devices are rapidly becoming a popular platform used to access information on the website as well.
Key features of the app include event and calendar information for national tours and popular local concert series. The app also contains an easy-to-use media player, which makes streaming audio content much easier than before.
Other features of the app include the ensembles section, which provides users access to ensemble and performer biographies, photos, videos and social media sites associated with the performing groups.
The news section gives users access to the latest news regarding tour announcements, ticket information and upcoming concerts.
Lastly, the audition announcements and requirements are located under the careers section of the app along with contact information for the auditions team.
“We are really excited about the app”, said Senior Master Sgt. Regina Pullin, U.S. Air Force Band superintendent of marketing and outreach. “We can use the app to send push notifications with concert reminders, announcements and weather cancellation information to our followers. We look forward to continuing to develop the app and use it to tell the Air Force story.”
The U.S. Air Force has a proud history of innovation and the Band is no different, continuing to innovate easier ways to stay connected with their audience.
