JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
The U.S. Air Force Band is scheduled to start their free 2018 Airmen of Note Jazz Heritage Series today at 8 p.m. at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
“This is one of our favorite events every year because not only does the audience get to connect with world class jazz performers, we do as well,” said Chief Master Sgt. Kevin Burns, U.S. Air Force Band’s Airmen of Note flight chief. “If you are a jazz lover or live here locally, this wouldn’t be something you would want to miss.”
The series dates back 28 years and will demonstrate the Air Force’s level of professionalism through concerts featuring masters of the American-born art form -- jazz.
There will be three concerts within the series: Feb. 8, March 8 and April 5, each held at 8 p.m. at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center. Pianist Kenny Barron will be featured on March 8 and a surprise guest will be closing out the season on April 5.
The first concert will feature vocalist Cyrille Aimée, who has ventured from singing on street corners in Europe to performing at prestigious jazz festivals to acting on Broadway. Aimée was referred to as a “rising star in the galaxy of jazz singers” by the New York Times for a performance at the Apollo Theatre in New York City. Among her accomplishments, she has won the Montreux Jazz Festival Voice Competition and the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition.
