Feds feed families

By Maj. Gen. Darren W. McDew Air Force District of Washington commander

One of the best things about living and working in the National Capital Region is having the opportunity to give back to the communities that support us. One way we can do this is by participating in the annual Feds Feed Families campaign.

This campaign collects non-perishable food and other items, and distributes them to food banks in the NCR. The nationwide goal for Feds Feed Families is to collect 2 million pounds of food. The Department of Defense goal is 733,800 pounds. Of all the wonderful things our military does for our nation, I can think of no greater show of support than to help our fellow Americans when they're down on their luck.

Collection containers will be placed around your units. Pick up dates for all collected items are June 28, July 29, and Aug. 31. For more information, consult with your chain of command. They can answer any questions you may have provide and guide you to the nearest collection containers.

Please help me in encouraging your organizations to contribute to this worthwhile cause. Together I know we can make a difference in the lives of so many here at home.
