JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. –
Are you thinking about smoking? Are you thinking about smoking a turkey? Maybe The Great American Smokeout and Turkey Trot are for you.
In collaboration with the Fitness Center, the Health and Wellness Center will kick off the annual Smokeout and Turkey Trot with a 5K run scheduled on Nov. 21 at 7:30 a.m. at the West Fitness Center. The Fitness Center will also give runners a chance to win a free turkey or ham!
It's an opportunity to join with other Joint Base Andrews smokers in saying, "no thanks" to cigarettes, and other tobacco products for 24 hours.
The rules are simple; you just quit smoking for the 24 hours of the Smokeout. The great thing is you won't be alone, other "quitters," non-smokers, and the wingmen around you will be cheering you on.
By quitting even for one day, tobacco users will be taking an important step towards a healthier life - one that can lead to reducing cancer risk. If you don't go on to quit permanently, you will have learned that you can quit for a day and that many others around you are taking the step, too.
Participants can "Bring a Stick for a Stack," trade in cigarettes for gum, water bottles, stress balls, and more.
For more information on becoming tobacco free, contact the HAWC at 240-857-HAWC (4292) or 857-5601.
