779 MDG Commander, Colonel Knight, talks with the community

By By Kathleen Canfield, 779th Medical Support Squadron 779th Medical Group

The new 779th Medical Group Commander, Colonel (Dr.) Leslie Knight, met with 97 members of the Joint Base Andrews community, on August 10, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., to listen to their concerns and compliments about the medical facility and gain valuable feedback on what the clinic can do to improve health care services. The event was meant to be an informal conversation with the commander and was held in the main lobby of the new Clinic, where there was comfortable seating and refreshments.

While there were numerous concerns regarding key services within the clinic, from processing prescriptions to difficulty with the new phone system, there were also many compliments for clinic pharmacists, emergency room staff, and providers who consistently took extra time to explain medication and treatment plans.

“We recently switched to a new phone system and know that it’s not working properly. We are working diligently to resolve the issues. Likewise, we need to tighten up on our processes to minimize your wait times in the facility,” said Knight.

Knight listened intently to each and every question and thanked participants for sharing their concerns. She reiterated her commitment to addressing their issues and working to ensure the care provided at Malcolm Grow Medical Clinics and Surgery Center was nothing short of excellent. Attendees expressed appreciation for having someone listen to their concerns.

Knight also informed the group about MiCare, and explained that it provided an easy way to securely communicate with their provider and clinic team, online, without having to make numerous phone calls. Throughout the night, several informational handouts were provided.

Several attendees had questions about TRICARE and the types of services available for those over age 65. TRICARE staff were on hand to respond to questions. Knight expressed interest in speaking further with retirees at the Retiree Day celebration on October 29.

“We appreciate your patience as we transition to our new facility. We strive to keep patients informed and involved. This will certainly be the first of more discussions to come,” said Knight.
