U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. James Juniper, NATO Air Training Command-Afghanistan special mission aviator advisor, received the Purple Heart October 10, 2013 at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, for wounds sustained during a Mi-17 helicopter mission near Gizab, Afghanistan. The October 8, 2013 mission was a troop movement mission transporting Afghan National Army commandos from Tarin Khowt Airfield in Uruzgan Province to the district of Gizab. Small energy-saving personal habits such as turning off lights and powering down office equipment when not in use at Joint Base Andrews have produced big financial savings for the Air Force, and ultimately, the American public. In fiscal year 2012, the installation achieved direct energy and water/sewer cost savings of approximately $3,164,020.27 as compared to fiscal 2011.
